On Monday, January 11, Arlene went to the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Arlene was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1969 to Russell and the late Ruth DeVore. She grew up in Crawford County where she was highly involved in 4-H, and graduated from Colonel Crawford High School.
She received her undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Defiance College. Later in life she went on to earn a Master’s degree in Library Science from Kent State University. She loved libraries and held numerous positions at Richland County Public Library and most recently Wayne County Public Library.
In 1997, she married Todd Whitmer who survives. Together they have one son, Nate “the joy of her life” who also survives.
She attended First Christian Church where she filled various roles including deacon, hand bell choir member, Sunday school teacher and chairperson of the congregation.
She loved spending time with her family, attending cross country races and helping with scouting events. She enjoyed crocheting, up-cycling, antiquing, and saying “I love you” with a well-prepared meal or dessert.
She will be dearly missed by family, friends, co-workers and library patrons.
She was proceeded in death by her grandparents; her Mother, Ruth DeVore; and an Uncle, Eldon Bauer.
She also survived by her father, Russell DeVore: a sister, Julie Sloan; an Uncle, Richard Bauer; an Aunt, Barbara (Robert) Dintaman; Nieces and Great-Nieces Olivia Sloan (Lucas Parsons), Emily Sloan, and Ellie Parsons; Nephews and Great Nephews Levi Sloan and Gabe Parsons.
Due to Covid-19 precautions, a Celebration of Life Service will be held this summer the details of which will be posted on Arlene’s Facebook account.
