Muriel Anne Boardman Aurand, 91, of Shelby, passed away Monday afternoon, January 4, 2021 in Ohio Health MedCentral in Mansfield.
Muriel was born October 17, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa to the late Edwin and Muriel (nee Wilstead) Boardman
She married the love of her life R. Gault Aurand Jr. on October 21, 1950, after being married for 62 years he preceded her in death on June 13, 2013.
Muriel taught Math and Science at Crestview for 17 years. She ran the Math lab at Pioneer Joint Vocational school. Muriel was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Shelby, Park Street Church in Ashland, where they served as deacons for many years, and a member of Garber Brethren Church.
She and Gault enjoyed attending and supporting the Ashland Symphony Orchestra. Muriel also enjoyed flowers, gardening, and working puzzles. She loved cheering for her grandchildren at their sporting events. Above all else she enjoyed spending time with her four children, 14 grandchildren, and 38 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Muriel will be deeply missed by her children; Muriel Anne Baith of Mansfield, Alyssa Kay Gomes of Hawaii, Victoria Lee (Tony) Lieb of Lakeville, Rufus G. Aurand III of Galion.
In addition to her husband and parents, Muriel was preceded in death by an infant daughter Marcia Louise Aurand, son in laws Henry Gomes and Benjamin Baith, two sisters Gertrude Kerner and Elizabeth Richmond, and one brother Edwin “Ned” Boardman.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Denbow Gasche Funeral Home,313 Center St., Ashland, Ohio 44805, with Anton “Tony” Lieb officiating, burial will follow in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
