Dean H. Banta, 81 of Ashland passed away early Wednesday morning, October 14, 2020 in his home.
He was born on August 17, 1939 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Dean was the son of the late Dean Brooks and Ruth (nee Krueger) Banta.
Dean loved his wife, daughters, grandchildren and his many dogs over the years. He enjoyed the Green Bay Packers and Chardonnay. He loved life and said that he still felt like he did when he was young. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, including teaching them the art of mowing lawns.
Dean graduated from Waterford High School, Class of 1957. Following his graduation, he attended Kendall College in Evanston Illinois. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education at Ashland University. He would later earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from The University of Akron.
Dean married the love of his life, the former Janice Wanda Schar on September 27, 1958.
He retired after more than 30 years from Madison Local Schools, where he taught 6th grade.
Dean is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Janice Banta of Ashland; three daughters, Karen (Lindsay) Sprang of Big Prairie, Susan (Chris) Cooper of Canton, and Kathy Banta of Akron; five grandchildren, Alexandra (Ben) Zimmer of Austintown, Mary Sprang of Ashland, Christopher Sprang of Big Prairie, Sarah Sprang of Perrysville, and Rebecca Sprang of Big Prairie; his twin brother, Don (Helen) Banta of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; two sisters-in-law, Sue Banta of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Carol Schar of Columbus; and a brother-in-law, Dwight (Martha) Schar of Palm Beach, Florida.
In addition to his parents, Dean is preceded in death by two brothers, Gary and Larry Banta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Homeward Bound Dog Shelter of Ashland County.
