Robert M. Patalano, 76 entered into eternal life, Friday, October 2, 2020 and was blessed to have his family by his side during the past week.
In his final days of struggling with Cancer, Bob was at peace and looking forward to going home to be with loved ones and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Bob was born on August 28, 1944 in Providence, Rhode Island to Vito A. and Elvira (nee Ricci) Patalano.
He graduated from Providence College in June of 1966 and was immediately commissioned through the ROTC program. He arrived in Vietnam in August of 1967 and served as a forward observer with the Mighty Ninth, 2nd Battalion, 9th Artillery until July of 1968. Returning to Rhode Island he joined the active reserves, 76th Div., USAR, and served as a Captain for several years.
Bob began his accounting career with Brown and Sharpe in Providence, RI. He retired as a controller from CK Composites in Mt. Pleasant, PA. In retirement Bob and wis wife, May, gave their time and talents to be church and community workers in Big Creek, KY, as part of the Brethren Volunteer Service. Bob then moved to Ashland Ohio and became active in the Northern Ohio Church of the Brethren and served in many ways. Closest to his heart was his ministry as Inspiration Hills’ Camp Director, District Youth Groups and providing assistance as a Co-Coordinator and leader on Brethren Disaster Ministries’ projects.
Bob was a faithful member of the Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren and currently was serving as a Deacon and previously had served as a co-youth advisor with his wife. Bob cared for others, valued his friendships, and set a Godly example volunteering in many ways as needed.
Bob is survived by his loving children, Andrea (Charles Sanislow) Patalano and Robert D. (Kay) Patalano; a granddaughter, Siena Patalano; many cousins; brothers-in-law, Joe Hays, Dave Hays, Floyd (Love) Hays, and Steve Hess; sister-in-law, Fay (Merl) Pritts; nephews, Kevin (Megan) Hess, Jason (Jennifer) Hess, and Nathan (Rebecca) Hess; great nephews, Noah and Sebastian Hess; great nieces, Natalie, Brooke, Bellamy, Dublyn Hess and Sydney Waggoner.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, May Patalano who passed away on March 6, 2008; his sister, Diane Patalano; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Reverend Durward and Mrs. Idabelle Hays; and a sister-in-law, Dr. Katherine Hess.
A Celebration of Bob’s life will be restricted to family on Thursday, October 8, 2020 in the sanctuary of the Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren with Reverend Jeff Messner officiating. Interment will follow in the Dickey Cemetery where the Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. The service will be live streamed from the church and available for viewing on the funeral home’s Facebook page. The service will also be made available for listening in the church parking lot on 103.5 FM. Friends may call for a public visitation on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren’s Barnabas Fund, 1509 Township Road 655, Ashland, Ohio or to Inspiration Hill’s Camp, 4819 West Easton Road, Burbank, Ohio 44214.
