Carolyn Grace Lucas, 78 of Ashland passed away on Monday morning, August 31, 2020 in the Inn at Ashland Woods.
She was born on February 7, 1942 in Elyria the daughter of the late Otto William and Marcia (nee McConnell) Sweet.
Carolyn graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1960. In her earlier years, she was employed at Woolworths. Once she became a mother, her focus was always on her family, volunteering countless hours at their school and church. Carolyn was a compassionate caregiver devoting time to many family members, friends, and neighbors during times of illness or need.
She married the love of her life, James A. Lucas on July 14, 1963.
Carolyn was a devoted member of Garber Brethren Church. She strongly supported missional outreach and prayer. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother demonstrated by being her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan at school and sporting events. Carolyn also enjoyed cooking and needlework.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jim Lucas of Ashland; two daughters, Angela (Steve) Boyce of Alexandria, Ohio and Carrie (Justin) Hubler of Ashland; three sons, Michael (Kimberly) Lucas of Mansfield, Craig (Kimberly) Lucas of Ashland and Matthew (Kari) Lucas of Mansfield; 15 grandchildren, Dustin, Lauryn, and Bryson Pickersgill, Brett and Chris Lucas, Andrew and Jamie Boyce, Marcia (Caleb) Stewart, Jacob and Steven Lucas, Abby (William) Dolin, Clayton, Carson, and Aubreyana Hubler, and Zach Lucas; four great grandchildren, Silas and Samara Boyce, Benjamin Stewart, and Mason Dolin; three sisters, Shirley Cavanaugh of Georgia, Mary (Bud) Sipe of Mansfield and Linda (Don) Lawrence of Ashland; and a brother-in-law, Ken (Betty) Icenhour of Ashland.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn is preceded in death by one daughter, Laura; one sister, Nancy Icenhour; and a brother, Jim (Louise) Sweet.
Friends may call Friday, September 4, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. in the Garber Brethren Church, 163 Sherman Avenue, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Drew Meziere and Reverend Dr. Arden Gilmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice.
