Joseph T. Jakubko, 87, of Ashland, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.
He was born on September 18, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of the late Josef and Helen (nee Shimko) Jakubko.
Joe attended Rhodes High School in Cleveland until the tenth grade, transferring to Brunnerdale Seminary in Canton, Ohio from where he graduated in 1951. He attended St. Joseph College in Collegeville, Indiana completing two years in the seminary.
Following college, he was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served as a medic overseas.
On April 16, 1966, he married the love of his life, Theresa Minges, of Ashland. They resided in Cleveland until 1972 before moving to Ashland.
Joe retired after more than 22 years from Allied Signal Company in 2001 where he was a machinist. Throughout his life, Joe was a jack of all trades, always finding a project to work on. He found a great deal of satisfaction and retreat in hard work at his hobby farm and working around the yard at home. Joe would often be in the garage putting his talents to good use. His family often claimed there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years; four daughters, Jennifer (Mike) Matthews of Dublin, Susan (Ric) Bonfiglio of Bowling Green, Kathy Martin of Sunbury and Becky (Tim) Kropp of Olney, Maryland; nine grandchildren, Daniel, Thomas, and Andrew Matthews, Jarod and Austin Bonfiglio, Christopher and Nicholas Martin, and Sam and Madeline Kropp; two sisters, Dorothy Jaracz of Naperville, Illinois and Mary Ann (John) Lesick of Cleveland.
In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his brother, John Jakubko.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Rod Kreidler presiding. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery where the Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Friends may call one hour prior to the mass from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
