William Carl Rose, 90 of Ashland, passed away at his home, Tuesday, August 25, 2020 surrounded by his family. He had been in failing health for six years.
Bill was born in Johnstown, PA on December 17, 1929 to Joseph Rose and Carmen (nee Rager) Rose.
He moved to Ashland in 1949 and married Marlene Derfler of Galion, OH on July 27, 1951.
He began his career in business as a sales representative for F.E. Myers & Bros. Co. in 1952. He was promoted to District Manager but left his position to join the newly created Myers dealership Water Supplies, Inc. where he was Vice-President. He then became President of Custom Power Washer. He became an account executive for Prescott, Ball, Turben and in 1971 purchased Ashland Municipal Supplies. He sold the business in 1989 and retired.
He was an avid golfer and tennis player in his younger years. He also enjoyed many years of fishing in Canada with his longtime friends.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as Sunday school officer and teacher. He belonged to Young Men’s Business Club, Ashland Country Club, Ashland Masonic Lodge, Ashland County Historical Society, as well as several professional water works organizations.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marlene; and his two daughters, Kathleen (John) Conery of Ashland and Karen (Dr. Wm.) Schirmer of Dublin. Also surviving are his six grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Jorie (Brian) Close of Upper Arlington, Jill (Adam) Slinger of Dublin, Dr. Wm. (wife Kevlin) Schirmer of Denver, Co., Dr. Jack Schirmer of Chicago, Il., Dr. Ian (wife Beth) Conery of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and Kelly Conery and fiancé, Grant Cunningham of Wilmington, NC.
His great grandchildren include Michael, Marley and Billy Close; Austin, Avery, and JJ Slinger; and Tamara Schirmer. Another great grandchild is due in October.
Also surviving are two sisters, Shirley and Judy; and a brother, Sterling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roy; his son, Dr. Steven Rose; and two infant granddaughters, Alexa Conery and Kathleen Schirmer.
The family wishes to thank his caretakers, Sheila, Katie, and Mary Ann for their comforting and compassionate care during his final months.
Memorial contributions may be made to the scholarship fund established by Bill and Marlene to benefit Ashland County graduating students in care of Ashland County Community Foundation, 300 College Avenue, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
There will be no calling hours or service due to the current pandemic.
