Paul Junior Cogar, 78, of West Salem, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family, Tuesday August 18, 2020.

Paul was born October 18, 1941 in Centralia, West Virgina, the son of the late Richard Paul and Wilcie (Bleigh) Cogar. He attended Roosevelt High School in Nutterfort, WV until he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Once his military service was finished, Paul obtained his GED.
Paul moved to Mansfield OH in 1964, and later to rural West Salem in 1974 with his wife Mary Anna (Fleming) Cogar to whom he was married November 21, 1973.
Paul retired from Crown Steel in 2002, and previously worked for the former Richland Brick. He attended Truth Baptist Church of West Salem and was a former member of First Baptist Church of Ashland. Paul was a member of the American Legion Post # 499 of West Salem.
Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was mechanically minded and loved to work on motors. As his son stated about Paul, “He was handy with anything.”
In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by his son Alan (Patricia) Cogar of West Salem; two granddaughters Emily Cogar of West Salem, and Jennifer Cogar of Hubbard. Two sisters; Shirley Drugman, and Kathy Brown of Jefferson Ohio. Three brothers Walt (Kathy) Cogar of Astabula, Frank (Isabelle) Cogar of Pittsfield, PA, Harold Cogar of Shinston, WV, and a Brother in Law Tom Derbyshire of Elkins, WV.
He was preceded in death by two sisters Sue Derbyshire and Lorrena Fish, three brothers in law Ray Drugman, Roger Brown, and Cosmos Fish, and one sister in law Gail Cogar.
Visitation will be Sunday August 23, 2020 1 P.M. to 4 P.M in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home, 313 Center Street Ashland, OH 44805. Services will be Monday August 24, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. in the Truth Baptist Church, 12457 Elyria Road, West Salem, OH 44287 with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Redhaw Cemetery with full military honors.
