Jack William Irving, 87, of Ashland, passed away Thursday morning, June 4, 2020 at Brethren Care Village in Ashland.

Jack was born in Loudonville, Ohio on November 21, 1932 to the late Jonathan and Clara (Goon) Irving. He was a graduate of Loudonville High School class of 1951 and was a member of the school’s first undefeated football team.
Jack served as a Petty Officer in the United States Navy stationed at North Island, San Diego, California and served on the USS Essex off the coast of North Korea.
He retired from State Auto Ins. Co. in 1997 after 41 years as a Senior Claim Representative. He and his wife Saundra had owned The Feminine Fitness Salon in Ashland.
Jack had served as President of Ashland City Council, and President of Loudonville Council for 23 years, and served as President of Dale Roy School Board. He served as a Director for the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame, Finance Chairman of the Ashland County Republican Party, Director on the Executive Board of the Johnny Appleseed Area Council Boy Scouts of America, Director with the Ashland Development Company, Director on the Ashland County Airport Authority, Director with Mansfield Domestic Violence Shelter, Director on the Loudonville Agricultural Society, Director of the Economic Development Council while formulating the Council, and as a Director on the Ashland Retail and Small Business Council. He was also an active football official for many years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ashland Elks Lodge #1360, Ashland American Legion Post #88, Country Club of Ashland, the Masonic Lodge, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assoc., the North Central Ohio Claims Assoc. and the Wayne County Officials Assoc.
Jack received the Honorary Alumnus Award from Ashland University in 2009.
Jack married Saundra L. Eisel in Loudonville, Ohio on September 17, 1983, she preceded him in death on May 22, 2020.
He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Shaw of San Clemente, CA. and Staci Stats; a son, Mark (Lori) Eisel of Wooster; grandchildren, Amanda (Bobby) Scully and Michael Eisel both of Wooster; and great grandchildren, Milo, Josie and Rowan Scully of Wooster.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife Saundra, brother, George Irving and a sister, Fern Wolf.
Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren in all their sporting events. In addition, his great grandchildren brought him joy.
A private family graveside funeral service will be held at the Ashland Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his loving wife Saundra.
A public Celebration of Life service for Jack and Saundra will be announced at a later date.
