Roger Don Shopbell, 85, of Ashland, went home to be with the Lord, and is now in His glory, Tuesday evening May 26, 2020.

He was born March 22, 1935 the son of Clifton D. and Grace E. (Braden) Shopbell on the Shopbell Family Homestead in Orange Township, Ashland County. He attended Savannah School and graduated from Ashland High School class of 1953. He lived and built his life in Orange Township. In Later years they enjoyed their home they built in Ridge Harbor, Punta Gorda, FL.
Roger was a lifetime farmer and founder of R&J Ag. Mfg. / All-Plant Liquid, which is all part of a family business. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ashland. His hobbies were his family, hard work, and found time to enjoy his airplane and antique cars.
He is survived by his wife and best friend Emma Joann (Herr) Shopbell whom he married on October 16, 1955 and they enjoyed 64 wonderful years together. Also surviving are three children, R. James (Pamela L.) Shopbell of Ashland; Pamela J. (Doug) Gerwig of Ashland and G. Ann (Doug) Baker of Westerville, OH; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter, Katherine (Kyle) Jones and their daughter Lilly with another great grandchild due in the fall; Elizabeth A. (Erdem) Kerim, Matthew Shopbell, Roger Tobias and Kristina M. Tobias and fiancé (Christian Albers); several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Eileen “Cal” Herr; and many special and dear friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife’s family and many extended family members and friends.
Roger will be remembered by those who knew him and loved him for his unconditional love, support, humor and generosity and was outstanding in his field – FARMING.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, June 1, 2020 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Ashland. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Matt Stollings and Pastor Butch White officiating. Burial will be in the Nankin Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 1233 U.S. Hwy. 42, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
