Obituary for Saundra Lee Irving (Kean)

Saundra Lee Kean Irving, 80, of Ashland, Ohio, passed away Friday, May 22, 2020, surrounded with love at her home following a recent decline in health. Saundra was born in Ashland on June 18, 1939 to John Francis Kean and Mary (Lytle) Kean.

Sadly, Saundra did not have the opportunity to meet her mother as Mary passed away shortly after Saundra’s birth. Saundra was blessed to be raised by her grandparents, Emil Eber Kean and Elsie Grace (Todd) Kean when Saundra’s father went to fight in WWII.

Saundra married Frank N. Eisel on March 3, 1959 and they had two children together prior to his death on June 22, 1963. Saundra is survived by her spouse, Jack W. Irving, whom she married on Sept. 17, 1984; they were a lovely couple who created a wonderful life together.

Saundra graduated from Ashland High School in 1957 and went on to have a successful career in wealth management. Her career began with a firm familiar to most locals, Prescott, Ball and Turben, and with a few name changes, all while remaining at the same address in Ashland, retired as Vice President of Irving/Eisel Investments. She was very devoted to working hard for her clients, which included individuals as well as many area businesses. Saundra was the epitome of professionalism and well respected.
In addition to her busy career and raising two children, Saundra still found time to be actively involved in the community, serving on several different service groups and numerous boards. She particularly enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors of Hospice of North Central Ohio, recognizing their important work. One of her most coveted accolades was in 2009 when she and Jack were awarded the Honorary Alumnus Award by Ashland University. This award is bestowed on a friend of the university who has not attended Ashland but has demonstrated dedication to the University’s beliefs and values through volunteer service and philanthropy. Saundra was very proud that her daughter and granddaughter both graduated from Ashland University. Saundra has also been actively involved in Trinity Lutheran Church.

Saundra was always such a generous person, from time given to the community and her philanthropic efforts, to the hundreds of crescent rolls she had her cousin, Sondra Goard make to be distributed to clients, friends, and family at Christmas; the lavish Christmas and birthday celebrations and the abundance of M&M’s available to the grandkids. We were all blessed with her generous opinions as well.

Saundra and Jack loved their annual trips to Myrtle Beach with aunt Mabel and uncle Bob; those were some really fun adventures. Most of all though, Saundra loved and adored her grandchildren. She loved to be with them, listen to their stories, attend their sporting events, and be their biggest cheerleader; she has been so influential in their lives. She was also lucky enough to have several grandpuppies who she absolutely adored as well. Although she was not able to be around her great grandchildren as much as she would have liked, she loved receiving photos and posting them all over her refrigerator. Saundra will be missed by many as her memory lives on in our hearts.

In addition to her husband, Jack, she is survived by her children Mark (Lori) Eisel of Wooster, Ohio and Tammy Shaw of San Clemente, California; grandchildren Amanda (Bobby) Scully and Michael Eisel; great grandchildren Milo, Josie, and Rowan Scully, all of Wooster, Ohio. In addition to numerous cousins and other family members, Saundra is also survived by her special aunt, Mabel Thompson.

Saundra was predeceased by her parents and grandparents.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Brethren Care Home Health Care team led by Molly Bartholomew, with special appreciation to Hannah, Kori, Lexi, and Arin for their loving care to Saundra. The Hospice Care Center of North Central Ohio deserves praise as well.

Private family committal services will be held in the Ashland Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin McClain officiating. A public Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. If you would like, Saundra’s family would be appreciative of donations made to one of the following: Brethren Care Village Foundation, 2140 Center St., Ashland, OH 44805 – / Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1021 Dauch Dr., Ashland, OH 44805 – / Ashland University, Office of Institutional Advancement, 401 College Ave., Ashland, OH 44805 – / Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Center St., Ashland, Ohio 44805.
