Genevieve Doris “Deanie” Goon, 91, of Polk, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 3, 2020 with her family by her side.

Deanie was born December 3, 1928 in Meyersdale, PA. the daughter of the late Russell L. and Nora E. (Maust) Crossen. The family moved to Ashland County while Deanie was a young child. She graduated from Polk High School, class of 1946.
She had worked at Cresco Mfg. for 3 years, then as a cook/Cafeteria worker for the Mapleton School District for 29 years. She also cooked for the Polk Lions Club for 29 years.
Deanie was a member of the Polk United Methodist Church, The Polk Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Polk Garden Club, was a Den Mother for the Polk Cub Scout Troop for many years and a member of the Polk Perky Dieters, (remember the shovel). She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, was an excellent baker, enjoyed traveling, bowling, going to church and she loved her front porch swing.
On November 23, 1946 she was married to James E. Goon who preceded her in death on June 23, 1985.
She is survived by her children, Bob (Dorothy) Goon; Michael (Beverly) Goon; Gary (Penny) Goon; Randy (Cyndy) Goon all of Polk; Cheryl (Frank) Bishop of Wooster; 19 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James E. Goon, two brothers, Lawrence and Robert Crossen and two sisters, Janet Inks and Dorothy Ann Crossen.
Private family graveside services will be held Thursday at the Polk Cemetery with the Rev. Dairel Kaiser officiating. There will be no public visitation. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Pathways Hospice & Palliative Care of Ashland, 1171 E. Main Street. Ashland, Ohio 44805.
