Robert D. May, 90 of Ashland passed away, surrounded by the love of his family, on Wednesday January 22, 2020. Born January 16, 1930 to Donald P. and Marie F. May in Cleveland OH, he was retired as executive vice president of sales at WW Grainger, Inc (formally WM Pattison Supply Co) in Cleveland, OH.
A well respected man, Robert was known for his integrity, honesty and fairness. He was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church Ashland where he served on many committees throughout the years, both within the church and also in the Ashland Community. He was a man who lead by example; who always said the only good deal in business was one that was fair to all involved. His vast array of knowledge has led many in his life to seek his advice, as he was always generous and thoughtful to those willing to learn. He always put his family first, and will be remembered as a true role model to those who knew and loved him.
Predeceased by his wife of nearly 64 years, Anita L. May and by their daughter Denise L. Laughery and infant grandson Robert D. (Robby) Walsh, he is survived by daughter Karen May Walsh of Emerald Isle NC, grandchildren Kristin E. Walsh of New York City, Kirkman K. Walsh and wife Hannah of Wilmington NC, Shawna L. Whited and husband Tim, of Crestline OH and Brian S. Laughery and wife Becca, and their children Bella and Saben of Galion OH. He is also survived by son-in-law Michael L. Laughery, also of Galion, sister Ellen Blackburn and husband Wally of Seven Hills OH, brother Donald F. May and wife Arlene of Westlake OH and cousin Ellie S. Murray of Avon, OH.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Center Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Dr. Eric Riesen officiating. A meal and time of fellowship will follow the service in Mitchell Hall.
In lieu of flowers, and at the family’s request donations may be made in his memory, to the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 7101 Creedmoor Rd., Suite 130 Raleigh NC 27613, a charity very dear to his heart.
