Marcia Ruth (née Maiken) Fratz went to be with her Savior and Lord on Friday, January 17, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 14, 1942 to David and Ruth (née Bussinger) Maiken in Dover, Ohio.
On June 25, 1960, Marcia married Roger Freelon with whom she had four children: Rebecca, Debra, Rita “Cathy,” and Michael. Over the years she worked at Gerwig’s White Barn, Kresge, W.T. Grant, Cresco, and A.L. Garber Company.
On March 26, 1977, Marcia met the love of her life, Jesus Christ, and became a child of God.
After her first marriage ended, mutual friends Eldon and Pattie Barone introduced Marcia to Donald Fratz from Litchfield, Ohio, a widower with four children: James, Carolyn, Heather, and Andy. Marcia and Don were married on March 5, 1983, and together had a daughter, Rachel.
While living in Litchfield, Marcia worked for Buckeye Schools as an aide, and crocheted 500 hat and booties sets for Medina hospital newborns.
During their life together, Marcia and Don served on five short-term mission trips to a Navajo reservation. Other mission trips took them to England, Ireland, and New York City.
Marcia loved crafts, especially crocheting, making over 120 afghans for family and friends and many baby afghans. She enjoyed entering her crafts in the Ashland County fair and won many awards. She was also a 16-gallon blood donor. She enjoyed collecting Snow White memorabilia.
Marcia was a member of Ashland Grace Brethren Church for over 40 years. She served at the reception desk and together with Don helped with two-year-olds. They also served on the marriage committee, hospitality committee, and as door greeters. She enjoyed traveling and went on a trip to Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, as well as trips to the Gatlinburg area with friends, and to Sight & Sound theater musical productions.
Marcia was blessed with nine children, fifteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many friends and a large family. She loved hosting holiday get-togethers and family gatherings. She enjoyed attending sporting events and programs involving her family.
