Shirley L. Boyd, 83 of Ashland died, Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at her home following a brief skirmish with cancer.
She was born July 30, 1936, the daughter of Ethel (nee Mowry) and Paul H. Fulk.
Shirley was a graduate of Ashland High School and attained her Master’s Degree in classroom instruction at Ashland College. She taught at the elementary level for the Ashland City Schools for 28 years retiring in 1999.
As a result of her interest in local history and family history and genealogy, she joined the Ashland County Historical Society, the Ohio Genealogical Society, and the Ashland County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. She enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer for the genealogical groups. Her local interests led her to write brief histories about Grant Street School, Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren, and early Ashland women of note in Ashland.
For 44 years she was a faithful member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance serving as teacher and Sunday School superintendent. In 2008 she became an associate member of the Dickey Church of the Brethren serving as a Sunday School Teacher.
On August 18, 1957 she married John Boyd. Surviving are three sons, Timothy (Tao) Boyd of Annandale, Virginia, Richard (Deborah) Boyd of Ashland, and Randall (Amy) Boyd of Ashland; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, January 20, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Dickey Church of the Brethren, 1509 Township Road 655, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Jeff Messner officiating. Interment will follow in the Dickey Cemetery. Friends may call, Sunday afternoon, January 19, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dickey Church of the Brethren or Pathways Hospice Care, 1171 E. Main Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
