Shirley L. Boyd, 83

Shirley L. Boyd, 83 of Ashland died, Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at her home following a brief skirmish with cancer.

She was born July 30, 1936, the daughter of Ethel (nee Mowry) and Paul H. Fulk.

Shirley was a graduate of Ashland High School and attained her Master’s Degree in classroom instruction at Ashland College. She taught at the elementary level for the Ashland City Schools for 28 years retiring in 1999.

As a result of her interest in local history and family history and genealogy, she joined the Ashland County Historical Society, the Ohio Genealogical Society, and the Ashland County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. She enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer for the genealogical groups. Her local interests led her to write brief histories about Grant Street School, Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren, and early Ashland women of note in Ashland.

For 44 years she was a faithful member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance serving as teacher and Sunday School superintendent. In 2008 she became an associate member of the Dickey Church of the Brethren serving as a Sunday School Teacher.

On August 18, 1957 she married John Boyd. Surviving are three sons, Timothy (Tao) Boyd of Annandale, Virginia, Richard (Deborah) Boyd of Ashland, and Randall (Amy) Boyd of Ashland; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 20, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Dickey Church of the Brethren, 1509 Township Road 655, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Jeff Messner officiating. Sending condolences to Tim, Rick, Randy and their families for the loss of their mother. We all may have moved from the Claremont neighborhood years ago, but we've always retained the wonderful memories of the neighbors there. I did reconnect with your mother a few years ago, through the genealogy site. May God be with all of you and you work through your loss. You'll be in our thoughts. Sharon and Jim Hess, Sarasota, FL

Dear Cousins,
We are sending our condolences upon the death of Shirley. What a kind, gentle, and graceful lady she was. The first wedding I ever attended was her’s and I remember it like yesterday. She is now with Uncle Paul, Aunt Ethel, Sharon, and the other Fulks who have preceded us to heaven. What a family reunion up there now!
We are sorry we were unable to attend the service.

After reading her Obituary, I was sad that I never had gotten to know the very successful and interesting wife of my cousin.
We would greet each other at family reunion; but, never get into real conversation. I know she will be missed by family and
those who's lives she touched. In loving sympathy, Carol

Our sincere condolences to Shirley’s family.
She was always kind to us and helpful with personal projects. We will always remember the many contributions that she made to family unity.
Shirley was indeed a special lady and her loss is felt by many.
Surely, she is now happily with John once again.
