Obituary

Linda L. Mapes, 73, of Ashland, died Friday in Largo, FL, following a struggle against liver cancer.

She was born Aug. 21, 1945, in Columbus to Robert and Thais (Nobis) Savage. After graduating from Willoughby South High School, she attended Ashland
College and earned a degree in elementary education.

She taught for Head Start, the Ashland University Montessori School, Dale-Roy School and Park Street Brethren Preschool. She was a substitute teacher in the Ashland City Schools. Later she worked for Kingston of Ashland in the activities department.

Linda was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Ashland, where she was an elder, a deacon and a member of the chancel choir. She made
regular visits to church members and others confined to their homes or to nursing homes.

While a student at Ashland College, she transferred to Ohio University for one semester in 1967. There she met Terry Mapes, whom she married on Aug. 24,
1968, in Athens, OH. They settled in Ashland and had one son, Daniel (Greensburg, PA).

After retiring in 2010, she and her husband spent their winters in Largo.

In addition to her husband Terry and son Daniel (Kelly), survivors include two grandchildren, Alyssa and Jacob (Max); and a sister, Carol Woodruff (Ken), of Canal
Winchester, OH.

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 320 Church Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Mike Parker officiating. Friends may call for a meal and time of fellowship following the service at the church.

Memorial contributions in Linda’s name may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, 320 Church Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 to help support campus ministry at Ashland University.

For those who may not be able to attend, online condolences may be shared on the funeral home's website at denbowfh.com.

I attended Ashland University with Linda in the 1960's. I will always remember her stamina and willingness to take 10 mile hikes, and go to the county fair. And, when she was excited, she was effervescent. Her spirit was contagious. She will be missed.

I remember Linda from school. Probably in mid 1970’s. She was always so kind. And with a smile at all times. My Sympathies to her Family. May God be with you at this time. Sincerely Doug Dougherty
