Mary Ann Welch, 79
Mary Ann Welch, 79 of Ashland passed away Wednesday morning, July 10, 2019 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster following a 4 ½ month courageous battle with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.
She was born on August 12, 1939 in Woodsfield to the late Raymond and Helen (nee Smith) Marshall.
Mary Ann was a 1957 graduate of Sullivan High School where she met the love of her life, David L. Welch. The couple later married on August 9, 1958 and would call Ashland home.
Mary Ann retired in 2005 after more than 18 years of service to the Ashland Theological Seminary. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and granny, her greatest love and enjoyment was spending time with her family. Mary Ann was a true matriarch making her house into a home for family and friends. A woman of traditions, she has left many for her family to carry on. She loved cooking, baking and was well known for her cutout cookies and pies. Each birthday was made special as she prepared favorite meals for family members. Summer was Mary Ann’s favorite time of year as she loved working in her yard and gardens. Mary Ann also enjoyed working for the Board of Elections, shopping, traveling, Ashland University Women’s Basketball and in her later years watching her great grandchildren. Mary Ann was a faithful and active member of the First Christian Church where she served as a diaconate and on the bereavement committee.
Mary Ann is survived by two daughters, Rebecca (Lee) Conwell and Tammy (Kevin) Repp, both of Ashland; four grandchildren, Katie Conwell, Grant (Ashley) Conwell, Jordan (Tiana) Repp, and Logan (Kayla) Repp all of Ashland; six great grandchildren, Bryleigh, Tenley, Braxton, and Briar Repp, Emerson Korbas, and Rhett Conwell; one expected great grandchild; one brother, Richard (Fern) Marshall of Jeromesville; two sisters-in-law, Yvonne Traxler of Miamisburg and Patty (Jerry) Szabo of Florence, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ann is preceded in death by her husband of 58 wonderful years, David L. Welch who passed away on September 2, 2016.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Church, 1425 King Road, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Pastor Rich Pate officiating. Interment will be in the Pioneer Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
