John Edson “Ed” Grindle, 84, formerly of Ashland, of Powell, Ohio, passed away Friday evening, May 31, 2019 at Sunrise of Dublin following an extended illness.

Ed was born in Ashland on October 22, 1934 and was the son of Howard Emerson and Margaret Louise (Richards) Grindle. He had been a resident of Ashland for 82 years before moving to Powell, Ohio two years ago. He was a graduate of Ashland High School and furthered his education receiving his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University.
He worked as a Civil Engineer for O.D.O.T. for 32 years before retiring
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, a member and past president of the Ashland Stamp and Coin Club and had been a member of the Ashland Jaycee’s.
He was an avid golfer and bowler. He was a collector and dealer of stamps and coins for many years. He was also family oriented and enjoyed family gatherings.
He was a veteran of the United Stated Army serving during the reconstruction phase after the Korean War.
On September 7, 1963 he was married to Marilyn Mowry and they celebrated 55 years of marriage in 2018. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Grindle of Powell, OH; two daughters, Laura (Scot) Keller and Lisa Grindle both of Powell; two grandchildren, Joshua Keller and Jennifer Keller and one brother, David (Sandra) Grindle of Ashland.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Zuercher officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard, will be in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home.
