Beulah Eudora “Dora” (Hootman) Capito, 96

Beulah Eudora “Dora” (Hootman) Capito, 96 of Ashland passed away May 31, 2019 in Belmont Tower. Dora was affectionately known as Auntie Boo to her nieces and nephews.

She was born on December 28, 1922 in Funk to Charley C. Hootman and Artie Eudora (Tyler) Hootman.

In her lifetime she had traveled quite extensively. She loved to paint as well. Her first husband, Roger Barden Benjamin preceded her in death in 1975. Roger was a WWII and Korean War veteran.

She later married John Capito from Bowling Green, Kentucky. John was also a WWII veteran. John had two boys who Dora treated as her own, John and Charlie.

Amanda (Adelee) McMillen (daughter to her older sister Ona) grew up down the road and stayed close all through life. Beloved Adelee preceded her in death in Nov. 2017.

Auntie Boo’s older brother Charles and wife Uarda’s children remain. Corinne (Kenneth-deceased) Spicer from Seattle, Carolyn (Larry) Heintz from Oak Harbor, Charles Jr. “Gene” (Carolyn) Hootman from Mansfield, and Mark (Donna) Hootman from Western New York.

A private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805.

The family would like to thank the staff at Belmont Tower at the Brethren Care Village and Hospice of North Central Ohio for the great care provided to our beloved Auntie Boo.

I was a volunteer visitor for Hospice. I have visited her weekly for the last several months. I feel like I was just getting to know her well. She was always pleasant, in fact I remember complimenting her on her positive outlook the last time I visited, on Wednesday May 29. I was shocked to hear of her sudden passing. It was an honor to be able to visit her during her last days. You were blessed to have her, and she loved her family dearly. She appreciated your care for her.

I have great memories of Dora. When I lived at the Belmont, we dined at the same table. I took her and Gerry out to lunch each week. After I moved from the Belmont, I picked her and Gerry up and we went to lunch each week. Then Gerry had to quit going, and it was just Dora and me.

She would always say we could go wherever I wanted, but we usually wound up at Cheddar's, her favorite restaurant, and she ordered her catfish. She really loved that catfish.

I am three weeks younger than she, and we used to joke about her being the oldest.

Her stories of her traveling were very entertaining. She led a wonderful life.

I am sorry that it had been about a month since I talked to her, but I was having lots of stuff going on--my middle daughter had brain surgery, and my oldest daughter was in a serious motorcycle accident and is not recovered yet.

I thought Dora was quite intelligent. It seemed as if she knew the answer to any questions that came up.

I will miss her.
