To plant a memorial tree in honor of Emeline Louella Fulmer (fluke), please visit our Heartfelt Sympathies Store.
Emeline was born on July 26, 1926 at home, in Polk, Ohio to Eugene and Mary (Swan) Fluke. She was a resident of Ashland County for most of her life, spending her last few years at Canton Christian Home.
Emeline worked as a secretary at various offices in the Ashland area, the County Extension Office, the Ashland Probate Court and at the Headquarters of ODOT.
She had a wide variety of interests, she loved to read on a wide variety of topics; politics, gardening, nature, historical figures, especially Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln, Women’s issues and humorists.
She was a wonderful mother to her three children who survive her, Rick (Marty) Krause of Ashland, Margaret Welch of Ashland and Janet Whitlatch of Canton. Mom was always so proud and supportive of the three of us. It was always so comforting to talk to mom about our concerns and issues of the day. She was wise, always knew the right thing to say and was such a good listener.
Emeline had six grandchildren; five granddaughters who survive, Shannon Krause Kerr (Andrew) of Boston, MA, Julie Krause Shenefield (Jeremiah) of Charlottesville, VA, Mandy Welch Anderson (Seth) of Kent, OH, Kelsey Whitlatch of Columbus, OH, and Kristen Whitlatch of Baltimore, MD. She had one grandson, John Michael Whitlatch, who preceded her in death. Her grandchildren know her as a wonderful Grandma and know that she loved each one of them very much. She was very proud of the strong, capable young women her granddaughters became. Emeline has four great grandchildren, Evan Gage Kerr, Katelyn Emeline Kerr, Matilda Adaline Anderson and Lucas Seth Anderson.
Emeline is survived by a sister, Helen Helvenston of Ocala, Fl. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, a brother, Donald Fluke and two sisters, Elinor Martin and Louise Beattie.
Mom was a faithful contributor to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, which services the Ashland area. She was troubled by the thought of children going to bed hungry. If you would like, please make a donation to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, online at www.greaterclevelandfoodbank.org or by mail to 15500 South Waterloo Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44110 in Mom’s memory. She would appreciate that.
At Emelines’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral service but, because she raised three strong, independent children there will be a memorial service for her at a later date.
Mom, we will love you forever.
