Evelyn Schwan Rogers (Metcalf)
Evelyn Schwan Rogers 91, of Ashland, passed away Monday afternoon April 10, 2017 at Brookwood Place in Ashland.

Evelyn was born in Durham, England on January 23, 1926 and was the daughter of the late John and Ada Cruddace Metcalf. She was proud to say that she completed her public education in England.

She had been a resident of Ashland since coming here as an English war bride in 1946.

Mrs. Rogers was a homemaker. She had worked at the County Extension Agency, Philway Company and the Carpenter’s Men Store.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ashland and had been the head cook of the Hunger Center at the church. She was also the head cook at church camp where she was affectionately known as “Cookie”. She was also a member of the Ashland Fire Auxiliary and worked the firemen’s tent at the Ashland County Fair for many years. She was a volunteer for over 30 years at Samaritan Hospital. She enjoyed cooking, baking (she was known for her pies), knitting, and enjoyed playing Bingo at Brookwood Place.

On May 30, 1945 she was married to Frederick E. Schwan who preceded her in death on August 6, 1982. She was then married to Donald D. Rogers on March 4, 1989 who preceded her in death on May 13, 2014.

She is survived by three daughters, Teresa Kowalski of Elyria; Patricia Plank of Colorado Springs, CO; Barbara (Jim) Chandler of Ashland; her daughter-in-law, Karin Schwan of Ashland; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Bowens, Michael Kowalski, Susan Reinhardt, Stacie (Plank) Reyes, Matthew (Calley) Chandler, Jonathan (Kori) Chandler, Jeffrey (Lynzie) Chandler, Nicolaus (Lisa) Schwan and Christopher (Michelle) Schwan; 18 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; a sister Joy (Fred) Sharp of Weymouth, England and her special friend, Fern Rock “Toots” of Titusville, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Frederick E. Schwan & Donald D. Rogers, her son, Frederick W. Schwan on Sept. 22, 2016 and her son-in-law, Jerry Kowalski on August 25, 2016, five brothers, John, Wilford, Len, Alan and Gordon and three sisters, Ethel Pell, Ada Chalwin and Mary Knight.

Funeral services will be held Saturday April 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Namy officiating. Burial will be in the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may call on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday April 15, 2017.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 220 Sandusky St., Ashland, Ohio 44805 or the Captain Fred Schwan firefighter/Paramedic Scholarship in care of the Ashland Community Foundation, 300 College Ave., Ashland, Ohio 44805.
