Portia Turk (Miller)
Portia D. (Miller) Turk 85, of Polk, passed away Thursday evening, December 21, 2017 at Brethren Care Village.
Portia was born in Polk on February 17, 1932, and was the daughter of Stanley A. and Eva E. (Shriner) Miller. She had been a resident of Ashland County all of her life.
Portia was a country girl all her life and along with her late husband Donald, owned and operated a farm in Polk. She loved being outdoors and around the cattle. She helped in the fields and loved walking around the farm. She also enjoyed gardening. Portia had also worked at the Mohican Rubber Company for 10 years.
She was a member of the Polk United Methodist Church, The Ashland Eagles 2178 Auxiliary and the Polk Am Vets Post 149 Auxiliary.
On November 8, 1952 Portia was married to Donald R. Turk who preceded her in death on April 9, 2017.
She is survived by her children, Gregory J. (Janis) Turk of West Salem; Linda K. (Michael) Turner of Ashland and Jeffery J. (Patricia) Turk of Polk; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Dawson, Nicole J. Walter, Quintine J.A. Turk and Robert J.P. Turk; four great grandchildren, Taylor, Skylar & Rylee Dawson and Kinsley Barbeisch; one sister, Claudia Bland of Polk; one brother, Darius Miller of Ashland and one brother-in-law, Don Heir of Ashland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald R. Turk, one sister Eva May Heir and one brother, Stanley Miller Jr.
A memorial service celebrating Portia’s life will be held Thursday December 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with the Rev. Cheryl Roshon officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Brethren Care Village, 2000 Center ST. Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Dr. Ashland, Ohio 44805.
