Amanda “Adelee” McMillen, 92
Amanda “Adelee” McMillen, 92, of Ashland passed away Monday morning, November 6, 2017 in Brethren Care Village.
She was born on July 12, 1925 in Plain Township, Wayne County, Ohio to the late August and Ona (nee Hootman) Smith.
Adelee married Reverend Frank McMillen on September 7, 1946. He went to his eternal home on May 19, 2011.
They would have celebrated their 65th anniversary of marriage in September of 2011.
Adelee graduated from Wooster High School in 1943 and Baldwin-Wallace College in 1947. She did additional studies at Bowling Green University and Ashland College. Teaching was the profession Adelee chose for her career. She taught 33 years in both Home Economics and Kindergarten.
She belonged to Ashland First United Methodist Church’s Friendship Sunday School Class and United Methodist Woman for many years; and held offices in both local and district.
During her life, she filled many offices in the church. Most recently, she was Chairperson of Ashland First Caring Companions and a member of Life and Lunch planning committee. Adelee attended church study groups and prayer gatherings regularly.
She belonged to the local, state and national teachers association. Adelee was also a member of Ashland Retired Teachers Organization, Esoteric Club, National Federation of Doll Club, and Gloriosa Garden Club.
At the age of 80, Adelee wrote a book about her journey in life. It includes the home, church, and school.
For nine years, Frank and Adelee wintered in Ft. Meade, Florida. They also traveled to England, Scotland, and Israel.
Adelee is survived by three sons, Ned (Melva) McMillen of Shreve, Paul (Brenda) McMillen of Lakeville, and Tim (Beverly) McMillen of Ashland; six grandchildren, Mandy (Denika) McMillen, Jessica (Scott) Musser, Jeff (Sandy) McMillen, Heidi (Matt) Garst, David (Diana) McMillen, Makalah (Damian) Bays; and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Adelee is preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank; and one infant brother.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 220 Sandusky Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Michael Namy and Reverend Jonathan Priebe officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
