Eva Wonders, 91
Eva Wonders (née Brill), 91, Ashland, passed away peacefully in the Bradford House II at Brethren Care Village on Saturday, April 8, 2017 after a long illness.
Eva was born in Calw, Germany on October 8, 1925. She married Janos Papay on October 8, 1949, and gave birth to her son the following June. The three of them immigrated to the United States in 1951.
Eva worked as a secretary and a switchboard operator before going on to pursue a higher education. She earned her B.A. in German from Ashland College in 1969, and then her M.A. in German from Bowling Green State University in 1970. She then earned her Guidance Counseling certificate from the Ohio State University.
Eva retired in 1991 after 19 years as a guidance counselor at New London High School. She spent her retirement years doing all the things that she loved. She enjoyed reading, travel, and summers with her two grandchildren. She was a "snowbird" for several years with her second husband Darwin Wonders. They would spend their winters in Florida and summers in Ohio.
She is survived by her step daughter-in-law, Patricia Wonders Carpenter (Roger); son Peter Papay (Tammy); grandson, Eric Papay; granddaughter, Heather Owens (James); four great granddaughters; and other extended family members.
She was preceded by her mother and father, Adolph and Anna (nee Opperman) Brill; sister, Ingeborg; husband, Janos Papay; husband, Darwin Wonders; stepson, Scott Wonders; stepdaughter, Ann Wonders; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Warner Papay.
A graveside service will be Monday, April 17, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in the Savannah Cemetery with Reverend Johnnie F. Swann officiating.
